Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoons pepper
  • 1 cup milk (plus more if needed)
  • 1 (15 oz) can LeSueur Peas, drained
  • 1 or 2 (2 oz) packages of sliced beef (I used 2 packages of the Buddig brand)
  • Toast, for serving

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring continuously, until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  3. Remove from heat and slowly whisk in the milk until smooth.
  4. Return to heat and bring to a gentle boil, stirring constantly. Cook for 1 minute until thickened.
  5. Stir in chopped beef and peas.
  6. If the mixture is too thick, add a little more milk until it reaches a gravy-like consistency.
  7. Serve hot over toasted bread.
  8. Tip: It thickens as it sits, so don't be afraid to loosen it up with a splash of milk before serving.
