MeMe’s Pound Cake
Me and Mama Sue recently went to South Carolina to visit with MeMe and her entire family. They are beyond precious! We ate, laughed, and ate some more! One of the standouts was MeMe’s famous pound cake. The texture was velvety. It was one of the best pound cakes that I have ever tasted.

MAMMIE'S POUND CAKE
Ingredients
- 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup Crisco, I used 1/2 of the stick of Crisco
- 3 cups of sugar
- 5 extra large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3 cups cake flour or all purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- Cream together butter, Crisco and sugar. Add eggs one at a time and beat well.
- Alternatively add flour and milk to mixture, starting and ending with flour.
- Add baking powder and vanilla and mix well.
- Set timer and mix on low for 10 minutes.
- Spray and flour your bundt pan.
- Pour mixture into pan and place in cold oven.
- Set temperature for 300° and bake for 1 1/2 hours.
- Remove from oven and let it cool on a rack for 5 minutes before removing from pan.
